Tutorial The sims 2 - How to create a new object mesh - Tutorial by Ronja
Software needed:
SimPE (last version or from the 0.66.2 version) - with nvidia DDS plugin
A 3d graphic software (I'll use 3dsMax)
A 2d graphic software (I'll use Photoshop CS2)
1) Open SimPE and go to Tools/Object Creation/Object Workshop and click on "Start". Wait until the loading finishes (it depends on the number of expansions you have installed)
2) Now you can see the list of the objects of "The Sims2". Let's go to clone a sofa, click on Sofas/ Sofa - Loveseat – Espansive Camel Back, than on Next, leave all without modification, and go again on Next clicking for the second time, than insert the title of the sofa, price and description.
3)Click on Finish, than rename (1), like the screen, the name (most original you can), click on Update (2) and OK (3).. Save into the downloads directory choosing the name of your file.
4)Now click, like the screen, first on Geometric data Container, than on the name of the mesh on the right. Like you can see, we have 2 parts of the objects, frame and fabric, click on export choosing the 3ds extension, and save it.
5)Now it's time to modeling and modifying the sofa. You have to use a 3d modeling software, I'll go to use 3dsMax.
6) The base tools needed are those indicated in the first screen below. Click on box to create a rectangle, stretch it and copy 4 times (Right click on mouse clone/copy) to make the legs of the sofa. Now we have to create the superior part with another rectangle and the sofa back with another rectangle too.
The result should be more or less like this below:
7) Join together all the box created by clicking on Attach List.
We have now a single object.
8) Now we have to create the pillows. Click, like the screen in the menu, First the pointer, than the sphere, and than select the "Extended Primitives". Select ChamferBox and create a pillow (or two, like you prefer).
9) Now we have to open the original object to overlap it on the one we're working on. The original object and the new one must overlap perfectly. In this case, the part where the sim sit down, must be at the same height of the original object, because in the game the animation is by default based on the original object and it can't be modified.
10) Delete the original object and save your work by clicking on File/Export.
11) Return in Simpe, click on Import, select the 3ds file saved, it appears another screen, we have to click ok.
12) Now go on Groups, like the screen and delete "frame" by clicking on delete. Click than on Box03 (the frame of the sofa) e rename it frame, click on commit. Repeat the same operation for fabric and ChamferBox (the pillow). At the end you'll see only two name's type, fabric and frame (Important! Don't forget to click "Commit" for every step you must save.
13)Go on Object Data, click on the first file of the list, like the screen,(NB: This step is important because, it permits to see the new objects in to the game and the choose of recolor) go on get GUID and save your object with another name, than click register object and than on commit. Do the same for the second file of the list.
13bis)For the third file, (that one without number between the brackets), before the click on get GUID you have to select the update MMATs box, change the name and click on ok, after click firsto on update thano on commit button.
14)Now it's the time of the texture, go on Texture Image and click on wood-mahogony. Open your 2d software, I'll use Photoshop. Create a new document 1024x512 and fill it with a wood texture (or what you prefer), save it in the .png format. Return on Simpe, Import the png file by clicking on the right button of the mouse--> Build DXT, open the file and click on ok, than on Build. Click on Commit.
15)Now it's time of the pillow's texture, click on cushion-pinkvelour. In this case the document must be 512x512, fill it with a texture created in a 2d software and save it in .png. Import the file saved by clicking on the right button of the mouse and than Build DXT, open and click on ok and Build. Click commit. Save all and control in the game your object!
